The Art of the Start
November 2, 2008 Books No CommentsThe Art of the Start : Guy Kawasaki
I was tempted to put this down and just start, the first chapters are inspiring and motivational. To me much of the information after the first couple of chapters wasn’t new, BUT…it is essential and often forgotten advice, and to have someone like Guy telling you, it’s worth listening. If you are planning on starting a business (new or a project within an organisation) this the information here is invaluable. Especially right now, you’re going to have to make a much bigger impression and prove your business to get any investment, the chapter on bootstrapping is great too, Seth Godin’s Bootstrappers Bible is still on my reading list which may have more substance here, but none the less, this book is what you need. I’m going to be keeping this close at hand and I will be rereading this when my time comes to kick off some ideas, don’t just read it but try out what he suggests.
Another thing I thought was great was the inclusion of a chapter basically on business ethics, which I think is often overlooked, whilst you are in business to make money, to make money at the expense of others is unnecessary and unjustified, and quite possibly the reason we’re in the ‘credit crunch’ now. Don’t be greedy and enjoy what you do.
